Cleanout Timeline Estimator

Pick a property size and a hoarding and clutter severity level for a planning range of how many days the clearing work itself might take, once it begins. We are not aware of a published study that measures how long a real estate cleanout takes, and Estate Cleanout Help does not track this either: the range below is our own planning framework, not a measured statistic. It says nothing about how soon a company can start your job.

Room counts are our own rough guide to help you picture each size, the same guide used on our cost estimator:

  • 500 sq ft: roughly 2 to 3 rooms
  • 800 sq ft: roughly 3 to 4 rooms
  • 1,000 sq ft: roughly 4 to 5 rooms
  • 1,500 sq ft: roughly 5 to 6 rooms
  • 2,000 sq ft: roughly 6 to 7 rooms
  • 2,500 sq ft: roughly 7 to 8 rooms
  • 3,000 sq ft: roughly 8 to 9 rooms

Not sure which level applies? See the full published level descriptions in our severity guide.

Planning range for this size and level

of clearing time, once work begins, in our own framework

Estate Cleanout Help's own planning framework, not a measured statistic.

This is a planning range, not a schedule. It does not include how soon a company can start, and it does not include remediation time if the job turns out to need it. Ask for a walkthrough before treating any number as fixed.

This moves into remediation, not an ordinary timeline

On our own reading of the published severity descriptions, not published guidance, a Level 4 or Level 5 property moves from an ordinary cleanout into remediation: protective equipment, containment and a different disposal classification. We do not have a planning range for remediation-scope work.

How we build this range

Larger properties take more clearing time in our range: it grows from 1 to 2 days at the smallest size we offer to 6 to 9 days at the largest. This is our own planning framework, not measured data. We are not aware of a published study that tracks how long real estate cleanouts take by property size, and we do not track it ourselves.

Severity level does not change the range within Level 1 to 3: our framework treats ordinary-to-elevated clutter as one planning tier, and reserves a separate step for when the job stops being an ordinary cleanout at all, at Level 4 or 5. That reading is explained in more depth in our severity guide.

What this range does not tell you

It does not include how soon a company can start your job: booking lead time and current crew availability are different questions that this framework does not estimate. It does not include remediation time at Level 4 or 5. It is not a quote, and it is not based on a walkthrough of your specific property.

This range covers the clearing work alone. If the reason you're timing a cleanout is a parent or relative moving out of the property, our senior downsizing checklist sets out the steps around that move, including where the cleanout itself fits in the order.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this estimate?

It is our own planning range, not a measured statistic. We are not aware of a published study that tracks how long real estate cleanouts take, and Estate Cleanout Help does not track this either. A walkthrough is the only thing that can tell you how much sorting your job actually needs. Ask for a walkthrough rather than relying on a number generated here.

Does this tell me how soon a company can start?

No. This estimates the clearing work itself, once it begins. It says nothing about booking lead time or a company's current availability. Ask companies directly about when they can fit your job in.

Why doesn't the range change between Level 1, 2 and 3?

Our framework treats ordinary-to-elevated clutter as one planning tier and steps up with property size, not severity, within that band. Severity changes whether we show a range at all, at Level 4 or 5, not the range itself within Level 1 to 3.

What happens at Level 4 or Level 5?

On our own reading of the published severity descriptions, not published guidance, that level of job moves into remediation: protective equipment, containment and a different disposal classification. We do not have a planning range for remediation-scope work.

Will the company doing my cleanout see what I enter here?

No. Nothing you select in this tool is sent anywhere. Estate Cleanout Help is an independent information resource, not a cleanout or remediation company, and is not affiliated with any company named on this site. If you separately request quotes through this site, only the details you enter in that form are shared, with a company serving your area.
